Fred Meersman, 86, of Moline died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. There will be a visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 also at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Burial will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Children's Therapy Center.

Fred was born on August 26, 1925 in Rock Island, IL to Fred and Celina (Hoet) Meersman. He married Evelyn Robinson on October 13, 1954. They were married for 56 wonderful years. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2010.

Fred was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Air Corp and for over 60 years he was the owner and president of Meersman's Bon Air. Fred was a life member of both the Rock Island County and Illinois Retail Liquor Associations serving as president of both. He was a longtime member of the Moline American Legion Post #246. Fred sponsored an I.S.C. fast pitch softball team for many years and in 2009 was honored for his commitment to the sport. He was a lifetime member of Oakwood Country Club where he participated in the ProAm for the Quad City Golf Classic; he enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as wintering in Florida.

4 Grandchildren Stefanie, Alex, Ben, and Jon
Brother Roger (Delight) Meersman

He was preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Meredith; and sisters, Albertina & Leona.
