Fred Padilla Jaravata, Sr., of San Francisco, California, passed away on September 8, 2011. He was 70 years old.
Mr. Jaravata was born on December 22, 1940 in Agoo, La Union, Philippines. He was the third child and second son of Alejandro Jaravata and Carmen Padilla Jaravata. Fred received a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Manual L. Quezon University. In 1969, he expanded his adventures and immigrated to Canada and married his beloved wife Eden Villanueva.
During their life in Toronto, Canada, Fred worked for the Globe and Mail newspaper as a proofreader. In 1971, Fred and Eden had their first child, Fred Jr. (Alexei) in Michigan, USA. As they were determined to attain the American Dream, they permanently moved to San Francisco, in 1972. Soon after, they had two more children, Carmela in 1975, and Jerry in 1976.
For over 25 years, Fred enjoyed a successful, hard working career as an insurance salesman earning dozens of top awards. Fred then ventured to become a law office administrator and importer/exporter between the Philippines and the United States.
Fred is widely known in many communities as a very open and giving person. He consistently helped others in meeting their needs. With his wife, they helped sponsor family, connect people and even set up couples to marry each other. Fred was a great social networker as he hosted many special events and occasions in their home. As friends and relatives travelled around the world, they made it a point to come to San Francisco and visit Fred and his family. Guests were soon greeted by Fred wearing his cooking apron and treated to hearty home cooked meals. He made sure all of his guests were eating the best tasting foods, drinking the best spirits, laugh and reminisce about memories of days past. Maybe, that is why many of their friends always came back to visit. Fred was very comfortable speaking with people as he easily made a connection with them no matter where they came from or what they did.
As the years went by, Fred witnessed many great family milestones that made him very proud. From visiting his son Alexei's school where he teaches; to his daughter Carmela's Ph.D. graduation; to recently attending his youngest son Jerry's company's big networking event. Fred's most recent joyous and lively time was loving and babysitting his first grandchild, Alexander.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife Eden; son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Fred Jr., (Alexei), Sharon and Alexander; daughter Carmela; youngest son Jerry; eldest brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Menjie and family; sister and brother-in-law, Flora and Adm. Virgilio Marcelo and family; sister Linda Vergara and family; brother and sister-in-law, Arturo and Violy and family.
A very special thanks to: All the Jaravatas of Toronto, Canada; The Marcelos of the Philippines and Southern California; The Vergaras of the Philippines and San Diego, The Jaravatas of New Jersey and Arizona; The Jaravatas of Southern California; The Agpoas of San Diego; The Gagucas Family, and the Agoonians of California and in the Philippines.
