COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Freda Louetta Green Ramsey, 100, will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at Shandon Presbyterian Church with burial at a later date in Eaton, Ohio. The family will receive friends following the service in Davis Hall. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel is assisting the family.
Mrs. Ramsey died Sunday, January 1, 2012. Born in Benums, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Adam Green and Cora Elizabeth Moore Green.
Freda grew up in Eaton, Ohio and resided in Dayton until her retirement. She worked for Rike-Kumler Company in retail and retired from Elder Beerman, both of Dayton, Ohio. Freda enjoyed history and had an interest in the U.S. Supreme Court. Her hobbies included quilting (she made over 50 quilts in her lifetime) and knitting afghans, teaching all of her great-grandchildren to knit, as well. She was a member of American Baptist Churches in Middletown, Ohio, Dayton, Ohio, Battle Creek, Mich., and People's Church of East Lansing, Mich. Freda celebrated her 100th birthday on March 17, 2011 and will be remembered always as a very generous person.
Surviving are her daughter, Joan Elizabeth Young of Columbia; sister, Nellie Ruth Tillett of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, James David Young (Susan Heinricher), Jennifer Elizabeth Young (Michael A Seaman), Michael Scott Young (Diane Dennert Young), Richard Jonathan Young (Lisa Needler Young), Richard Dolechec, Scott Ramsey (Mandy Ramsey); and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Neil Ramsey.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 2786, Columbia SC 29202.
