"His Lord said unto him, Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord" (St. Matt. 22:21).
Our beloved Fred was born May 27, 1936 in Boston, MA and passed away in Fresno, CA on May 11, 2010 at the age of 73, with his loving wife Ellen at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Marion Clifford Miller. Fred was raised in Fitchburg, MA. He shared many happy memories of his childhood living in Fitchburg- swimming in the pond across from his home, hunting in the woods near his home, and delivering newspapers in the rain, sleet and snow. He graduated from Fitchburg High in 1954 and in May of 1955 enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Gearing DD710 for 4 years. He went to work for IBM after his military service. He lived in Seattle, WA and Atlanta, GA and eventually moved to Fresno in 1980 as a manager of the Fresno IBM Office. He worked for IBM for 32 years retiring in 1991 and two weeks later was called to run the IBM parts department. He continued to work until he was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in August 2008.
Fred was a quiet, loving and gentle man. He was a faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather "Papa". He always said his grandchildren were the best medicine ever. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings. He spent the last ten years serving Saturday Mornings at the Fresno LDS Temple.
Fred is survived by his loving wife Ellen. Son from his first marriage, Braden and his wife Nancy, daughters; Christy Bell and husband Ian, Lisa VanNortwick and husband Aaron, Marci Birrell and husband Jameson and his special grandchildren; Ryan, Chloe, Riley, Ella, Alea and Rosa and by his brother Richard A. Miller of Florida.
A celebration of Fred's life will be held Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Fresno LDS North Stake Center, 220 N. Peach, Clovis, CA at 10:00am followed by a graveside service at the Clovis District Cemetery.
