Frederick Henry Bielefeld, 81, of Avon, beloved husband of Carol (Schliphack) Bielefeld, passed into eternal life, Thursday, June, 21, 2012. Born in Staten Island, NY, son of the late Josef and Ellen (LaPiedra) Bielefeld, he resided in Bethlehem, PA most of his life. Fred served in the US Army, Special Category Army Reassigned with Air Force (SCARWAF) during the Korean War, stationed in Alaska. He graduated from New York University with a degree in Civil Engineering. After working for several consulting firms in NYC, he moved to Bethlehem, PA as associate director of the Lehigh Valley Joint Planning Commission. He subsequently joined Bethlehem Steel Corp and was manager of State and Community Affairs upon his retirement in 1996. Fred held membership in the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Institute of Planners. He was a past member of the executive group of the Urban Land Institute and served as vice chairman of its Federal Policy Council. He was a board member of the National Council on Urban Economic Development and served on the board of directors of the Lehigh Valley Industrial Park, Inc. Fred and Carol moved to Avon in 2006. He was a communicant of the Church of Saint Ann and a proud member of the Men of Saint Ann. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a fan of the NY Yankees. Besides his wife Carol, he is survived by his daughter, Christine Dewhurst and her husband John of Bethlehem, PA, a son, Douglas and his wife Celene of East Longmeadow, MA, and their children Bridget and Patrick; a daughter, Judi Hauser and her husband Glen of Granby and their children Meredith, Jack, and Will; and a daughter, Brooke Ann Drumbore and her husband Kevin of Basking Ridge, NJ. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Kenneth Schliphack and his wife Diane of Pine Bush, NY and their children, Kendra Hajek and her husband Jan, and their children; and by Todd Schliphack. Fred was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Edward Schliphack and his nephew, Gregory Allen. His family will receive friends Friday, June 29, 2012 from 9:30am to 10:30 am at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon, followed by military honors.
