Frederick W. Schroeder, 85, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at La Porte Hospital. He was born December 17, 1925 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Charles F. Schroeder and Myrtle (Lower) Schroeder. Frederick had been a delivery driver for Bonnie Baking for twenty-three years; he also served as a LaPorte City Police Office for thirteen years. He was a member of LaPorte Missionary Church, LaPorte VFW Post #1130, Teamsters, and Veteran of the US Marines during WW II. Frederick enjoyed baking bread, he was nicknamed "The Candy Man", because he loved giving out candy. Frederick enjoyed helping people. On June 22, 1947, in LaPorte, IN, he married Colleen Heusi Schroeder who survives. He is also survived by his two sons - Michael (Betsy) Schroeder of West Webster, NY, Timothy (Ann) Schroeder of Rochester, NY; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Frederick was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday March 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Carl Galloway officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd. Suite 1010 Rockville, MD 20852 or Dialysis Association, P.O. Box 51362 GMF, Boston, MA 02205-1362.
