Brattleboro- Frida Kulmus, 99, a resident at Pine Heights Nursing Home, formerly of Arbor Hill Commons, died early Thursday morning, June 9, 2011 at Pine Hieghts. Mrs. Kulmus was born in Biberach, Germany on March 25, 1912, the eldest daughter of Josef and Kathe Schmucker) Greif. She was raised and educated in Germany and on August 25, 1931, in Biberach she was married to Otto Kulmus. Following her marriage she joined her husband in New York City where they lived for ten years before moving to Putney and finally settling in Brattleboro. Her husband of 57 years predeceased her on March 7, 1989. A devoted homemaker, of her leisure time activities she especially enjoyed flower gardening, knitting and travel. For several years she used her talents and knitted for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Brattleboro.. Mrs. Kulmus was a longtime communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include three daughters; Luise May of Washington, DC, Carol Muller and husband George of San Jose, CA and Loretta Kulmus of Brattleboro, one sister, Klare Kessler of Biberach, Germany, six grandchildren; Katherine Andersen and husband Kevin of Herndon, VA, Lawrence and Aileen May of Washington, DC, Matthew Muller and wife Christina of Fremont, CA, Stephen Muller and wife Laura of Santa Clara, CA and Paul Muller of San Jose, CA and five great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 12:00 noon at Saint Michael's Catholic Church. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery. There are no calling hours at the funeral home.
