Gabriel "Gabe" Fiorella, Jr., 80, of Owensboro, Kentucky died Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Carmel Home in Owensboro, due to injuries sustained from an auto accident. He was born on June 24, 1928 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late Gabriel and Agnes Loretta Fiorella. He was a member of Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana. After retirement from the restaurant business in 1985, he was a sales representative for RCIS. He was formerly active in and past president of the Kentucky Restaurant Association, having displayed the original hamburger wagon belonging to his father, who founded Gabe's Restaurant in 1919. He was a former director of the Owensboro Tourist Commission and served on the first Owensboro Hydroplane Committee. He was an avid golfer and loved watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Terrill Fiorella on April 15, 2005. "Hi neighbor, it's a wonderful world."

He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Tony (Vickie), Jody (Paula), Andy (Ann) and Jerry Pat (Renee) all of Owensboro and Nick (Sharon) of Florida; three daughters, Karen Snider (Gary) of Breckenridge County, KY and Susie Fillman (Jay) and Missy Epperson (Mike) both of Owensboro; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and four sisters, Beverly Fiorella of Colorado, Peggy Wimsatt of Ohio, Mary Michael Hayden of Owensboro and Margie Culligan of Colorado and one spoiled dog, Copper.

Services are at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Carmel Home, 250l Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42301 or to the Owensboro Firefighers Victim's Fund, 512 W. 9th Street, Owensboro, KY 4230l.
