Schenectady- Gary "Big Bird" Mesec Sr. 61, of Schenectady, died Thursday evening November 3, 2011 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness, with his loving family by his side.

Gary was born in Schenectady, son of the late Arthur L. and Marie Rising Mesec.

He worked 41 years at General Electric, in the Steam Turbine Department, from which he retired in 2010.


Survived by his son Gary J. Mesec Jr; step children, Robert Chaplin and Melissa Chaplin; brothers, Barry (Agnes) Mesec of Schenectady, Terry (Patricia) Mesec of Schenectady; sisters, Sherry (Geoff ) Moore of Scotia, Lynn Brewer of Schenectady; grandchildren, Haylee Mesec, Amanda Waterson, David Godlewski; Also survived by several nieces, nephews and beloved ex-wives, Ann Mesec and Marion Williams.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet at St. John the Evangelist Church on Monday at 11 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at Mc Clellan St.), Schenectady.
Burial will be next to his parents in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady.
