Our dearest Gene M. Ellerbee, age 70, was called home by our Heavenly Father on June 14, 2010. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Joe Beverly, daughters and their spouses, Lisa and George Wierwille, Cathy and Bart Lipton, Cindy and Kip Williams, Jacqi and Rick Williams, Jennifer and Chip Owen, along with 15 grandchildren.

Gene was born April 4, 1940 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Denson and Betty Ellerbee. Gene had a daughter, Christine and two brothers, Denson and Donald who are with the Lord. He is survived by his youngest brother, Robert Ellerbee of San Antonio. Gene graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1958. He attended Colorado University on football scholarship. He remained an enthusiastic fan of the “Buffs”. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served on the board of the Colorado University Foundation.

Gene married Joe Beverly Houston on June 15, 1962, in San Antonio. He then embarked on his 30 year career with Procter and Gamble. This brought Gene and Joe to many cities where the developed lifelong friends and enjoyed many adventures. They eventually ended up in Cincinnati, Ohio where they raised their five daughters.

Once Gene retired from Procter and Gamble, he began following what he believed was his true calling, to serve and minister for the Lord. He was a long time member of Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and served as Vice President in Newport Beach, California. Gene also volunteered praying and visiting prison inmates. This led to another passion, prison ministry. Gene joined Bill Glass Prison Ministries in Dallas and served as President and COO.

Once Gene officially retired, he began his own business called C12. This is a ministry that counsels and advises Presidents and CEO’s of companies. He operated out of Austin, Texas.

Gene will always be known as a loving husband, father, friend and mentor. We will remember his sense of humor and silliness, his love of the outdoors and especially fly fishing. We know he is fishing a Dream Stream in Heaven. Most of all we remember Gene as a man who lived for the Lord, led many to the Lord and was a proud servant of the Lord.

We will miss you Dad!

A celebration of Gene’s life will take place at 1:00 on June 26, 2010 at Weed Corley Fish. 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas 78734. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd. Ste.100 Austin, TX 78759, or the charity of your choice.
