Genoveva Magdalena Salinas entered into eternal rest on October 28, 2009 at the age of 80. She was born in Laredo, Texas on July 22, 1929 to Pablo and Maria de Jesus Martinez. She graduated from Laredo Martin High School and attended Laredo Junior College where she earned an Associates degree. She began a career with the H.B. Zachry Company working in their accounting and data processing department. There she met the love of her life and married in 1953, a union that would last 56 years. Genoveva left the workplace to start a family devoting her time to husband, children and church. She eventually returned to H.B. Zachry after her children had grown. She retired in 1994. Genoveva and her husband were one of the original families to help establish the parish of St. Leonard's Catholic Church. A devout Catholic, Genoveva lovingly served as parish President of the Guadalupana Society, chairperson of various annual festival committees and served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector, a member of the Altar Society and other parish groups conducive to the growth and well-being of the parish. Genoveva and her husband also belonged to the Order of St. Stephen, an informal group of Catholic deacons and their wives that enjoyed sharing Christian fellowship and studying the Bible. At church and at home, Genoveva most enjoyed working to serve others and bring Christ into their lives through her actions. She was preceded in death by her parents. Genoveva is survived by her loving husband Carlos L. Salinas, daughter Sylvia I. Pastrano and husband Willie, son Carlos E. Salinas and wife Maria Linda, and brother Pablo V. Martinez Jr.; granddaughter Cristina Michelle Cornell and husband Shaun, grandson Eric William Pastrano and wife Amanda, grandson Mark Anthony Pastrano and wife Kristen, granddaughter Lisa Michelle Salinas, granddaughter Erica Nicole Salinas, and granddaughter Amanda Kaitlyn Salinas; great granddaughters Megan Michelle Cornell, Sara Nicole Cornell, and Addyson Jade Pastrano; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. The family would like to extend its thanks to the support staffs at Vitas Hospice and Griswold Healthcare for their kind care and dedication in making her last, earthly days as comfortable as possible.
