George Alex Smith, 40 of Elkin, passed away Wednesday March 24, 2010. Mr. Smith was born November 6, 1969 in Surry County to David and Wilma Reece Smith. He was a member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith is survived by a twin brother Gerald Smith and wife Debbie of Elkin; sisters Debbie Wood and husband Rev. Kenny Wood of State Road and Lisa Landry and husband Mike of Elkin; and special nephews Joe Wood, Jared Smith, and twins Brett and Jesse Smith. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday March 27, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Wood, Rev. Jerry Wilmoth, Rev. Matthew Simpson, and Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00pm at Elkin Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer Children's Home, 1006 Byrd Ridge Road, N. Wilkesboro, NC 28697.
