George "Bob" Robert Leslie, 79, of Hot Springs passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at home. Born November 2, 1931 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Ellis and Carmen Cobb Leslie, he was a longtime member of and a Sunday School teacher at First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended public schools of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Syracuse at Syracuse, New York, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with major in Psychology and minor in Russian language. He received his Master of Arts degree in Psychology and Diploma of Advanced Study in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and his Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri. He was employed at The Rehabilitation Institute in Kansas City, Missouri as a Counselor-Psychologist for a special demonstration project, as Supervisor, Vocational and Work Adjustment Services, as Director of Vocational Services and Director of Research. He was a Research Assistant in the Department of Education at the University of Missouri. He was Director of Client Services at the Arkansas Rehabilitation Research and Training Center, Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center. He was Founder and Executive Director of Ouachita Regional Counseling and Mental Health Center serving five counties in West Central Arkansas.
He was a member of the American Psychological Association, American Personnel and Guidance Association, Division of Rehabilitation Counseling, the National Rehabilitation Association and Psi Chi.. He was former member of Board of directors of Garland County United Fund, Board of Directors of Ouachita Area Counseling and Guidance Center, Chairman of Professional Personnel Committee, Garland County Mental Health Association and Board of Directors, Local Troop of Boy Scouts of America, First Methodist Church.
He was predeceased by his former wife of 37 years, Norma Singleton Leslie and brother, Ellis Everett Leslie, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Verla Olson Leslie of Hot Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Robert and Shirley Leslie of Melbourne, Florida and David Singleton and Barbara Leslie of Ketchum, Idaho; daughter, Sara Lynn Leslie of Shoshone, Idaho; two granddaughters, Tori Leslie of Melbourne, Florida and Jessica Erin Johnson of Shoshone, Idaho; three nieces and a multitude of friends; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Weldon and Marye Adcock.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Crestview Mausoleum with Brother Brant Perrigo officiating.
