Bridgewater George C. Nagel 87, died November 26, 2009 at his residence in Bridgewater. He was born in Bridgewater and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Louise Bohne and Ferdinand Nagel. Mr. Nagel was employed as a carpenter for Hobbs and Gulick Builders of Somerville for over 50 years. He retired in 1993 after 16 years of service with the Somerville YMCA. He was an avid collector of clocks and watches and a master craftsman in their repair and restoration. He was an active member of the National Clock and Watch Association, Chapters 1, 2, 25 and 88. George was a Founding and Life Member of the Green Knoll Volunteer Fire Department, where he continued his service as Trustee at the time of his death. Mr. Nagel proudly served with the US Navy in the South Pacific and the Mediterranean during World War II. Among the wonderful things for which George will be remembered are his sharp wit, his enthusiasm for life and most of all his love for people, especially children. He was the kind of person that will always be remembered by his neighbors and many friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ferdinand (John) Nagel, Walter Nagel and Richard J. Meier, and his sister, Edna Kostreba. George is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Amy L. Nagel, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Charles Kovacs and Doris and Douglas Hill, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral services will be 10:30am Monday November 30, 2009 at the Bruce C VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 North Gaston Ave.Somerville. Interment will follow at New Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will be 3-6pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Green Knoll Fire Department, P.O. Box 6004, Bridgewater, NJ 08807
