Rev. George Edward Lake, 80, of Lexington, NC (formerly of West Union, WV) departed this life on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at his residence. Rev. Lake was born June 28, 1931, in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Cline O. and Catherine (Reynolds) Lake. He graduated from the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL in 1958 and then served 3 churches in Illinois before returning home to West Virginia. In West Virginia, he served churches in Boone, McDowell, Wayne, Logan, Wood, and most recently in Doddridge County at the West Union Baptist Church and the South Fork Baptist Church upon his retirement in 1997. Rev. Lake was also instrumental in the WV Baptist Convention for many years. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America serving on the National Jamboree staff for many years as well as training for many Eagle Scouts and Scout Masters. Rev. Lake greatly enjoyed the outdoors, camping, woodworking, and his loving grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (VanBuskirk) Lake; 7 children, Samuel Lake (Debra) Shady Springs, WV; Lisa Ann Lycans (Dana), Lexington, NC; Timothy Lake (Patricia), Swansboro, NC; David Lake ( Deidre) Parkersburg, WV; Jill Hyatt (Tommy), Lexington, NC; Andrew Lake, Swansboro, NC; Jonathan Lake (Ashley), Inwood, WV; grandchildren, Jacob (Beth) Lake, Sean Lake, Scott (Ryan) Lycans, Zachary (Abbie) Lycans; Alexandria (Ben) Albertson, Lydia, Julia, & Benjamin Lake, Erika, Aaron, Haley, Allison, Caleb, & Alexander Hyatt; great grandchildren, Teagan, Dominick, Jaxson, Elijah; brother, Billy Lake, Ona, WV; sisters, Patricia Meadows, Huntington, WV; Hettie Reeves, W. Columbia, TX, and sister in law, Laura Lake of Huntington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Michel David and his brother, Raymond Lake. Funeral services will be 11am on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at the West Union Baptist Church, 204 Cottage Ave., West Union WV. Burial will follow in the South Fork Baptist Church Cemetery near Summers (Doddridge County). Friends may call the church from 4-8pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
