George F. Smith, 98, Liberty, Missouri died October 1, 2011 at home. Born January 16, 1913 in Centerview, MO to Roscoe and Bessie Hughes Smith, George was the youngest of 3 boys. He was involved in many sports in high school and especially loved the game of baseball. He married his wife of 71 years, Amelia Ann Parsons, on July 11, 1935 and they lived at his parent's farm until they could buy a farm of their own in the Warrensburg area. George continued to farm until he and Amelia moved to Gladstone in 1958, where their association with Gladstone Bowl brought them in contact with new friends. A Liberty resident since 1975, George managed the Claycrest Golf Course for more than 10 years. George and Amelia enjoyed many great adventures in their retirement, travelling across the country in their RV. George was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Earl and Everett Smith and his beautiful wife Amelia. Survivors include sisters-in-law Mary Grace (Bob) Patrick, Peculiar, MO, Carmelina Smith, Gladstone, MO, nephews Merle Smith, Mayview, MO , Les (Laura) Smith, formerly of Gladstone, MO, Verle (Janet) Smith, Oak Grove, MO, Gary (Diane) Smith, Mayview, MO, Steve (Regina) Glorioso, Kansas City, MO, niece Patricia (Kip) Bradley, Santa Barbara, CA, dear friend that was like a son, R.W. Harris, Gladstone, MO and many great-nieces and nephews. George's infectious smile and kind spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
