George Harry McMurtry
Simpsonville, SC

George Harry McMurtry, 66, of Simpsonville, S.C. died peacefully in his sleep at NHC Laurens, SC on January 14, 2012 after a long bout with cancer.

Born on June 22, 1945 in Ticonderoga, NY he was the son of Orlin Granger McMurtry and Gertrude Putnam Briggs. He graduated with honors from Greenville Technical College with an Associate Degree in Applied Engineering and worked as a consultant, often traveling internationally. Mr. McMurtry was well known as an exceptional craftsman to his friends and family. When not working on projects, he loved to hunt, fish, boat, and attend classic car shows. After losing the love of his life in the past year, Helena Cooper McMurtry, Mr. McMurtry dedicated his remaining months to honoring their relationship.

Survivors include his three sons: Christopher K. McMurtry; Kevin D. McMurtry; George H. McMurtry II; his three sisters: Eleanor McMurtry; Lorraine McMurtry Higgs; Barbara McMurtry Connell-Hanley; four grandchildren, and his very close friends Doug and Stacy Jones of Simpsonville, SC.
