REEVES, COMMANDER GEORGE JAMES, USN, (RET)
Age 90, died in Solvang, California on Saturday, November 12, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mrs. Vivian Reeves; daughter, Lynn Izzo; granddaughter, Kim Guzman; great-granddaughter, Emma Guzman; brother, Arthur Reeves; and nephews, David Reeves and Curtis Smith. G.J. was preceded in death by his parents George and Ada Reeves; sister, Mary Reeves Smith; and his first wife and the mother of his daughter, Betty Reeves. He was born in 1921 in Amarillo, Texas and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1938. He then went on to receive his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1942. From 1942 through 1962 he served in the US Navy as an officer and pilot. During that time he graduated from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California where he earned his Aeronautical Engineering degree. His specialty training and education led him to becoming a carrier based aircraft and helicopter pilot. His military career included a three year tour as a test pilot, a three year tour as a helicopter procurement officer for the Navy and Army and he retired with the prestigious rank of Commander. G. J. later went on to receive a degree in Business Management from the University of Southern California in 1970 and to obtain his real estate license in 1971. He also had a career as the director of marketing for Fairchild-Hiller Aircraft in Palo Alto, California and as a Director of Marketing for the Rotary Wing Division at Lockheed. G.J. was also President and CEO of Reeves Pipe and Pump Supply and Reeves Drillers Supply in Albuquerque. He met and married Vivian Yott and together they traveled extensively and lived in both ...
