HALIFAX- George L. (Kutt) Kotkiewicz, age 77, of Halifax passed away unexpectedly on May 28, 2011 at his home. George was born in Roslyn, Long Island New York, son of the late Thomas and Bessie Kotkiewicz. George was a US Navy veteran and graduate of the Milkaukee School of Engineering and Northeastern University. George's initial occupational path included engineering positions at both American Air Filter and Control Electronics, which provided the foundation for the formation of his first company, Aerospace Avionics. This firm produced electronic equipment for major aviation customers, such as Grumman Aircraft and the U.S. Military. After selling his interest in Aerospace Avionics George joined AMP Corp. now Tyco Industries. He retired from AMP as Vice President after a successful career in spanning 32 years. During his tenure with the company George excelled in several managerial positions, leading AMP to new growth records while building the strong business organization necessary to support global customers such as I.B.M., AMP's largest client. While with AMP George's outside interests included real estate investment which led to the development of a major farming operation (1200 acres rented and owned) and a wholesale tree nursery operated in concert with family members. With his commitment to agriculture and knowledge of farm equipment it was only natural that George would eventually acquire partial ownership in a small John Deere dealership during the late 90's. After his retirement from AMP George reduced his farming operations, expanded his wholesale tree nursery to a 113 acre facility, and grew Valley Ag and Turf into an organization covering most of central Pennsylvania with six dealerships, five John Deere and one Kubota. As CEO of Valley Ag and Turf George set the overall strategy and direction for the company and delegated the day to day operational management to his son Tige. George's unique corporate management perspective combined with an intimate knowledge of agriculture and the equipment industry allowed him to lead Valley AG and Turf into the twenty-first century. George served on the Board of Directors of Fort Halifax and Inconn International Corp., Niantic, Conn. Mr. Kotkiewicz is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Barbara Gleason Kotkiewicz; a daughter Elizabeth and fiance Dr. John Erhard of Moosic, PA, a son Tige and wife Tama of Halifax, and a son William and wife Jennifer of Harrisburg, and granddaughters Alex and Jacki Kotkiewicz, granddaughters Brooke and Keeley Kotkiewicz and a great grandson, Kason. He was preceded in death by sisters Barbara Sokolski, Patricia Blake, and a brother Thomas Kotkiewicz. A visitation will be held on Thursday June 2, 2011 from 3-6:00 pm at the Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home in Elizabethville. Memorial donations made be made to the Halifax Area Ambulance and Rescue Assoc. PO Box 459 Halifax, PA 17032. To sign the online guest book go to www.hbfuneralhomes.com.
