Mr. George P. Towne, 67, of La Porte, Indiana, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at La Porte Hospital. He was born November 12, 1942 in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Prescott Towne and Ruth (Farnham) Towne. George had lived in the LaPorte area since 1967 coming from Bryan, Ohio. George worked as an operating engineer for Midwest Operating Engineers and Ritschard Brothers of South Bend for fifteen years, retiring in 2000. George enjoyed fishing and repairing small hobby Lionel trains. He was a spectator of stock cars, loved sports and loved his family. On November 22, 1969, in LaPorte, IN, he married I. Elizabeth (Mick) Towne who survives. He is also survived by his five sons - Cory A. Towne of La Porte, IN, Brian (Rieko) Towne of Agora Hills, CA, Mathew (Kristen) Towne of Union Mills, IN, Gary Pressler of WI, Jeff Pressler of WI; four grandchildren; two sisters - Janice Stonestreet of Kokomo, IN, Laura Karl of Bryan, OH; and one brother, Stan Towne of FL. George was preceded in death by his parents. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 9:30 am, until time of services. Service will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday September 30, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow at the Door Village Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of LaPorte or Disabled Veterans.
