George "Booty" W. Hickey, 91 of Wilmington, died peacefully on June 14, 2012 while surrounded by his family.
Booty was born in Sudlersville, MD and later moved to Marcus Hook, PA and lived most of his life in Delaware County.
As a WWII Veteran, Booty served our country under General Patton and Hell on Wheels. He worked at Sun Oil in Marcus Hook for over 45 years.
He was a proud husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed going to church (Union Gospel in Marcus Hook) where he served as a Deacon. Other than family, Booty was passionate in his love of baseball. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Athletics and one of his proudest moments was when he hit the only homerun off of The King and his Court.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Myrna (Boyle) Hickey, Sr., loving wife Helen M. Hickey (Cassidy), daughter Helen Marie McKinley, brother Alfred Hickey, sisters Mable Duffy and Edith Pierce and step daughter Linda MacSorley. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Helen Mabry-Hickey, son George (Patricia) Hickey, Sr., 3 grandchildren George (Carol) Hickey, Tricia Hickey, Michael McKinley, 3 great grandchildren, a sister Helen Abbott, a brother William (Chris) Hickey, 3 stepchildren Nancy (Jim) Brown, George Mabry, and Gary Mabry, and 5 step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday June 19, 2012 at GEBHART FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Union Gospel Church, 1117 Market Street, Marcus Hook, PA 19061.
