George W. Mayo, 91, formerly of Avalon Hills, Virginia Beach, VA, passed away August 31, 2009, in Oakwood Nursing Home. A native of Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Margaret Mayo, and the widower of Elsa F. Mayo. He retired from Prices Inc. as a Salesman. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Corinthian Masonic Lodge #266 AF&AM. He is survived by his son, Larry L. Mayo of Virginia Beach, VA; and daughter, Dolly M. Hinton and her husband Ray of Newport News, VA; and two daughters-in-law, Marilyn Mayo and Christy Mayo; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, George W. Mayo, Jr. and John Scott Mayo, two sisters, Ethel Daughtry and Norma Belvin; and three brothers, Jim Mayo, Edward F. Mayo and Harry C. Mayo, Jr. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, September 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church on Colley Avenue in Norfolk, VA with the Rev. James Blalock officiating. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
