KIRBY, Gerald Austin Sr. Age 78 of White House, TN, passed away on June 17, 2010 with his family at his bedside. He was born February 24, 1932 in Nashville, TN to the late Henry and Oma Kirby. On May 9, 1958, he married his best friend, Edna Ruth Kirby. Gerald was a deacon of the church and enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Gerald served in the US Navy as a aviation machinist mate airman during the Korean War. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Edna Ruth; devoted son Jerry; devoted daughters, Janet (Larry) Osborne, Gayle Bell, and Tina (Jeff) Hale; Eighteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother Harvey; sisters, Jean and Charly. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Louis, Benton, Dorsey, Garland; and sisters Zelda Mae and Louise. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home White House Friday from 3-8 pm, and Saturday June 19 from 11 am until service time at 2 pm. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class at Bethel Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be his son Jerry Kirby, and grandsons David Osborne, Jeremy Osborne, Trent Bell, Kirby Bell, Kendall Bell, Chandler Hale, and Lake Kirby.
