Gerald S. "Kit" Carlson, 77, of the 300 block of Gallenway Terrace, Chesapeake, VA, passed away January 12, 2011, in his home. A native of Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Adolph and Harriet Carlson. He retired from the United States Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 20 and attended Great Bridge Church of Christ. Kit is survived by his wife, Viola I. Carlson; four children, Laura Clark and husband John of Hampton, VA, Gerald M. Carlson of Portsmouth, VA, Jason D. Carlson and wife Lindsey of Chesapeake, VA and Amber N. Carlson of Chesapeake, VA; five granddaughters, Ashley, Amy, Allison, Victoria and Kayleigh; a sister, Anna Mae Lotz of Maryland; a brother, Fred Carlson of Iowa; a brother-in-law, Rollan Green of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a twin sister, Geraldine Green; and two brothers, James and George Carlson. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel with Rev. Gary Unsworth officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service with full Marine Corps honors will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
