Joy beyond sadness; Peace beyond this time///////From the Fisher-Davis family and staff with deepest sympathy///////Geraldine Adams, 71, of the 100 block of Carol Lane, died July 25, 2011 in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. Born in Durham, N.C., she retired after more than 30 years of service with Suffolk and Portsmouth public school systems as a foreign language instructor. She was a 35-year member of Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she served as a faithful usher, feeding the hungry and in the Centennial Sunday School class. She was very active in the Community Golden Sorority and a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Virginia State University, and earned her master's degree at Old Dominion University. She completed advanced studies at Wichita State University, Wichita, Kan., and in Mexico. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Alice Taylor (Fred) of Woodbridge, Va.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, with the Rev. Joe B. Fleming presiding. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The AKA ritual will be held at 11 a.m. in Third Baptist Church. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, Va. has charge.
