Get:lldine Bernice (Newton) Thompson, known as "Gerty" to family and friends. succumbed to multiple ailments and passed away peacefUlly on Christmas morning. 201 I. She was born December 6. 1931, to John F. and Velmer S. AlIen in Ennis, Texas. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, a brother. husband Joe C. Thompson, father of her children and love of her life Bill Newton. daughter Gail, son Bill Jr., and granddaughter Staci. She is survived daughters Barbara Koerbacher. Debbie Lee, and DeAnna Hargrove; grandchildren Kasi, Jay, Michael. Cricket. Missi. Kniki, D.]., Cori, Dawn and Randall; and a host of great grandchildren, family and friends. Getty Thompson worked for many years in the advertising department of The Oak Cliff Tribune, then later as a proof consultant at Olan Mills Studios. where she worked until retirement. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. December 29. 201! in the Chapel at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas (laurellanddallas.com), with visitation for family and friends in the Chapel one hour before the service. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
