"A Friend to Everyone" Canandaigua: Gerardus "Jerry" Scholts, age 99 of Quail Summit, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at F.F. Thompson Hospital. He is survived by his niece, Katie (Mike) Durbin; great- nephews, Dan (Nancy) Miller, John Miller (Tracey Wilcox), Tim Miller (Andy Wu), Bill Durbin (Peggy Alva); great-niece, Ginger (Mike) Miller; great –great nephews, Travis and Matt Miller ; great-great niece, Alaina Miller; and his life-long closest friends, Arnold and Johanna Smeenk, John Kerr and Alan Kane, and Karl and Urai Marchanese. He was predeceased by his wife, Dickie Scholts Mellens; two sisters, Gertrude Mookhoek and Elizabeth Scholts; niece, Bette Miller; and brother-in-law, William Mookhoek. Mr. Scholts was born in Haarlem, the Netherlands on August 2, 1912. He immigrated to the United States in 1928 at the age of 16. Throughout his life, gardening was not only his profession, but also his passion. For many years, he and his wife spent half of every year in their Canandaigua home and the other half residing in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. There will be no calling hours. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 am at Quail Summit, 5102 Parrish St. Ext, Canandaigua. Interment will be in Pine Bank Cemetery, Cheshire.
