Gerrit Wiekamp, age 92, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2005, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 7, 2005, at 10:30 A.M. at Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Rev. Gordon Bloomendaal officiating.

Burial in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon

Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 P.M. at Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service.

Gerrit J. Wiekamp, was born on November 3, 1913, on a farm between Hospers and Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Arie and Johanna (Tekrony) Wiekamp. He lived his youth in the Sheldon area, where he attended a country school, until he started working for farmers in the area.
He was united in marriage to Marie Geerdes of George, Iowa, on June 18, 1937. She passed away on June 30, 1976.
Gerrit farmed in the George and Melvin, Iowa, areas for nine years. He then moved back to Sheldon where he drove truck with his brother, Walt, for three years. He became self-employed with a corn sheller business for seventeen years. Upon selling the shelling business, he became employed as a truck salesman at O'Connor Implement in Sheldon and farmed his land as well.
When he retired, he moved to Sun City, California, where he lived for fifteen years. He was united in marriage to Jennie Bomgaars on December 27, 1980. She passed away on February 12, 1995. He then moved back to Iowa and lived in Spirit Lake, for the last nine years.
He was a life-long member of the Reformed Church of America in Sheldon and Canyon Lake, California.
He especially loved his family. He will always be remembered for his jovial and positive attitude and how he loved entertaining his grandchildren and others. He also loved to tinker and fix whatever needed attention. The out-of-doors was a place he could usually be found.
Gerrit passed away on his 92nd birthday, on Thursday, November 3, 2005, at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Those left to cherish his memories are his son and daughter-in-law: Gerald and Patty Wiekamp of Spirit Lake, IA; two daughters and sons-in-law: Twyla and Darrell Schaap of Milford, IA, Marlene and Ronald Reisinger of Spirit Lake, IA; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 7 step-sons: Calvin, Roland, Ernie, Darryl, Lester, Warren, and Mike Wiekamp, all of California; also 2 sisters-in-law: Revina Wiekamp of Orange City, IA and Francis Geerdes of Nixa, MO; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives: Marie and Jennie; 4 brothers: William, Walter, Albert, and Raymond.
