Gertrude Williams departed this life and was called by the Lord on April 20, 2011 at home. Gertrude was born in Sylvania, Georgia on September 13, 1928 to Rother and Irene Hunter. She was the eldest daughter of 19 children. She was affectionately known as "Honey". She attended the Screven County School System. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Charlie Williams, Jr. on May 25, 1946. Gertrude and Charlie moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey in the 1950's and then to Linden, New Jersey in 1962. In 1957 they were blessed with a son, Leonard. Gertrude became a member of Mt. Teman AME Church, Elizabeth, New Jersey in the 50's. She was actively involved with the Usher Board for as long as she could. She loved to cook for her family and church. She was known for her Sweet Potato Pie and cakes. She loved to spend time taking care of her flowers. She would always say let me have my flowers while I am here. She was employed by Manpower and later did domestic work. Gertrude loved the Lord. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, a son, Leonard Williams; daughter-in-law, Wanda Williams; two grandchildren, Leonard Andre` Williams and Jasmine Williams; her brothers, John W. Hunter (Jasie) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Ezell Hunter, Sr. of Elizabeth, NJ, Lonell Hunter of Utah, Lenwood Hunter (Gussie) of Sylvania, Ga and Kennethese Hunter (Joyce) of Sylvania, GA; her sisters, Rosa Lee McCullough (Golden) of Miami, FL, Edna Bryant of Sylvania, GA, Thelma Melvin of Elizabeth, NJ and Geneva Williams (Bennie L.), Sylvania, GA; a best friend, Ruth Brooks and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Williams, Jr. and her siblings, Rother (Redboy) Hunter, Corrie Lee Hunter, Carnell Hunter, Eugene Hunter, Irene Oliver, Lillie Mae Hunter, Walstine Hunter, Carrie Bell Cogdell and Earnest Hunter.
