Gilbert F. "Gus" Gustafson, age 87, of Moline, died Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Trinity, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Memorials may be made to family.

Gilbert was born June 20, 1924 in Beresford, SD, the son of Peter and Mathilda (Anderson) Gustafson. He married Mary Jo De Witte on December 20, 1980 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1989.

Gilbert was a WW II veteran, serving in the Army Signal Corp Company. He was employed by Illinois Central Railroad as an Agent-Operator from 1950-1968. He then worked for Navajo Freight Lines & Arkansas Best Freight Systems from 1969-1989, as an OS&D - Billing clerk, retiring in June 1989. Gilbert was a member of Teamsters Local #371, the Vikings (Thor Lodge No. 9, I.O.V.), the Rock Island Elks Lodge #980, and Moline American Legion. Gus loved traveling, fishing, camping, photography and his daily martini.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
