Glenn Brooks McClanan, Sr., an attorney who represented Virginia Beach in the General Assembly, died on Thursday, January 26, 2012. As a legislator, he built a reputation advocating consumer and environmental causes. McClanan introduced legislation that helped Virginia Beach obtain its primary water source of Lake Gaston. He chaired the Agriculture Committee and was a member of the General Laws and Corporations Insurance & Banking Committees. Born in Princess Anne County in 1934, Glenn was the only child to Herman McClanan & Gertrude Whitehurst McClanan. He enjoyed 49 years of marriage and civic involvement with former Virginia Beach Councilwoman Reba McClanan. He was an active member of the community serving as the former President of the Virginia Beach Council of Civic Organizations, Princess Anne Plaza Civic League and Kempsville Business and Professional Association. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the Virginia Beach Sports Club, Tidewater Friends of Folk Music, Kempsville Ruritans and the Masonic Lodge #25. In Glenn's youth, he was an active member of 4H which lead to his participation in the International Farm Youth Exchange program through which he met Reba and started a life filled with journeys to more than 50 countries. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, Lynchburg College and Kempsville High School. Glenn is survived by his wife Reba; his 3 children Anne, Glenn Jr. & Martin McClanan and 3 grandchildren Benjamin Hadad IV, Ian McClanan & Katie McClanan.
