Glenn Richard Forcum passed away peacefully on November 5, 2011, with his family by his side. He was a positive and gentle spirit who touched the lives of many, someone who will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Edna Forcum, and his younger brother James Klaa Forcum. Glenn was born on April14, 1932 and was raised in San Francisco.
Upon graduating from George Washington High School, Glenn married his high school sweetheart Ernestine. The couple recently celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary. During the Korean War, Glenn served our Country in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Upon his discharge from the Army, Glenn rejoined Southern Pacific Railway as a freight rate clerk. Returning to school, Glenn ultimately attained his Master's Degree in Education from San Francisco State University. In 1962, he embarked upon a thirty-four year career in public education; starting as a classroom teacher and ultimately becoming a school principal in Daly City.
Glenn is survived by his family for whom he cared deeply, including his devoted wife Ernestine, son Mark, daughters Julie and Karen, son-in-law Jim Rinehart, and his grandchildren Gabriele Rinehart and Friedrich Plankensteiner. Glenn particularly looked forward to seeing Gabriele and Friedrich, who were frequent visitors to their grandparents' home. Glenn is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Glenn loved his classic cars, gardening, investing in the stock market and hearing about the daily activities of his wife and children.
Despite his long struggle with diabetes, Glenn always put his family and friends first. The family offers its sincere thanks to the many physicians and nurses affiliated with Mills-Peninsula Hospitals. A private family celebration of Glenn's life took place on November 16,2011. To remember Glenn's positive spirit, the family asks that any memorial donations be made to the American Diabetic Association, or any charity of your choice.
