Mrs. Glenys L. (Savary) Symonds, 78, of Cascade, MD, died Tuesday evening, January 24, 2012, in the Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD. She had been in failing health for the past month. Born October 4, 1933 in Malden, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Enid (Field) Savary. She lived her early life in Malden. She and her husband, the late Raymond F. "Fred" Symonds, were married on November 11, 1951 in Malden. They moved to their home in Cascade in November 1969. Mr. Symonds died on August 28, 2011. Mrs. Symonds worked as an aide at the Cascade Elementary School and also as a clerk at the thrift store at Fort Ritchie. However, she was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Thurmont, MD and attended services at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Sabillasville, MD. She also was a volunteer at various organizations in the community, including the Election Board of Washington County, MD. Mrs. Symonds enjoyed being around children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by three sons, Richard W. Symonds and his wife Sue of Gloucester, VA, Douglas P. Symonds and his wife Jean of Monroe, NC and Dan W. Symonds and his wife Cathy of Smithsburg, MD; her daughter-in-law, Kassie E. Symonds of Smithsburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Raymond F. Symonds, Jr.; four sisters; and five brothers. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Janet Comings officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery in Cascade. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday evening, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Mark's Lutheran Church, P.O.
