Gloria Hynes (nee Friday) passed away on April 11, 2011 at the age of 85. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, and loyal friend. She was the fifth of seven children born to deaf parents, all of whom, much to her dismay, preceded her in death. Fluent at sign language, Gloria was an interpreter for the deaf and hearing impaired throughout her lifetime, and she fought fiercely for the rights of the deaf. She mentored and nurtured many deaf children as well as interpreters. Whether mothering her brood of five children, interpreting and caring for deaf children at a neighborhood school, or hosting dinners and events for her family and friends, Gloria gave her all and was beloved by everyone who knew her. She was definitely a people person who always supported the underdog. Gloria had a heart of gold. Gloria was born in Royal Oak Township, Michigan, March 21, 1926. She married Melbourne "Dotsy" Hynes her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life. They were married for over 50 years before Mel's passing in 2001. Nothing was more important to Gloria than her family. Her son, Mel Hynes II (Sue), and daughters Rebecca McKelvey (Butch), Susanna Hamilton (Jim), Carolyn Organek (Rich), and Mary Cryderman were devoted to their mother. She was so proud, too, of her 9 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, and 7 great grandchildren. Gloria was adored by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins as well. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family. She will be dearly missed. ~John Taylor~ "While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet her behind the veil."
