Golden Mackey, 77, of the 700 block of South Lake Circle, Chesapeake, VA, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2010, in his home. Born in Currituck, NC, Mr. Mackey was a retired butcher and owner of Village Wholesale Meats. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lena M. Mackey; a daughter, Monique Mackey Gordon of Jamaica, NY; a son, Mark L. Mackey of Jamaica, NY; two sisters, Christine Mackey of Brooklyn, NY and Ethel Mackey Brown of Winterville, NC; and two brothers, Rufus A. Mackey, Sr. of Brooklyn, NY and Ernest Gibbs of Greenville, NC. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Dome of Canaan Baptist Church, 1209 S. Dominion Blvd., Chesapeake, VA, with Rev. Benjamin Mackey and Rev. Theodore R. Little, Jr.officiating. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
