Gordon Bedford
Gordon Thomas Bedford, 98, a resident of Annapolis for 49 years and previously of Baltimore, died on October 11 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Annapolis.
He was born on February 16, 1913 in Bristol, England. Gordon received a BSE in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a MS in Personnel Administration from George Washington University. He held various engineering positions, retiring in 1981 from the Naval Research and Development Lab. During his career, he managed the development of advanced hydrofoil ship and air cushion vehicle systems.
Gordon became a U.S. citizen in 1945. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, past president of the International Club of Annapolis and the Opera Guild. He sang as a church soloist in choruses and in Jubilate over the years with his wife. Among his interests were sailing and ships, inspired by his Grandfather who had been a sea captain, and in retirement a lighthouse keeper.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Billie Grizelle Taylor; sisters, Violet Bedford of Montreal, Quebec and Theresa Bedford of Vancouver, British Columbia; and nephews, Barrie Anderson and Russell Anderson, both of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, October 17 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1101 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, where funeral services will immediately follow. Private interment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake.
