Gordon W. Maxwell, Jr. died November 16, 2011 at home under the care of Hospice. Born in 1922 in Homestead, PA, Gordon was the only son with 3 sisters. One sister, Florence Stawarski of West Mifflin, PA, survives him.

Gordon joined the Merchant Marine in 1942 during WWII, starting as an oiler. He attended Kings Point Naval Academy and worked his way up to be Chief Engineer on oil tankers and freighter. He sailed on every ocean, and fought in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars during his 44 year career. The family moved to Clearwater in 1955.

Gordon is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy. He is survived by his two sons, Bruce and Kent(Shari) who live in Clearwater Beach, two grandsons, Scott (Rachel) of Clearwater, and Paul (Cherie) of Largo, as well as 5 great-grandchildren, Kara, Hannah, Adam, Jared and Andrew.
