On Monday, January 2, 2012 Grace Aitel of Herndon, VA. Beloved wife of 68 years of Moe Lawrence Aitel. Loving mother of Susan Janice Aitel and husband Jonathan Gale Goldman, Nancy Lea Aitel-Thompson, Spencer Douglas Aitel and wife Paige Tyson, Louise Joyce Koutavas and husband Jay Samuel Koutavas. Grandmother of David Antonio Zapata Aitel and wife Justine Marie Aitel, Talibah Esther Buchanan and husband John Fulton Buchanan, Zakiya Emmona Thompson and Rasheed Samuel Thompson. Great-grandmother of Max Aitel, Kayla Rebecca Buchanan, Harry Aitel and Valentino Aitel. In life she enjoyed reading, gardening, and feeding the birds in the back yard. She especially loved sunflowers and butterflies. She was part of that greatest generation of women who broke tradition and went to college and worked outside the home. She and her husband settled in Virginia after stops in New York, California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. She was a librarian an one of the earliest users of on-line research databases. Funeral services will be held 10am Thursday at Temple Rodef Shalom, 2100 Westmoreland St. Falls Church, VA 22043.
