Grady Pitts, 82, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away June 15, 2012. A native of Randolph County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Grady Mancil Pitts and Vera Tessie Harris Pitts. He was predeceased by his wife, Purity Pitts. Grady had retired from the US Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class after 20 years of service. He was a member of Indian River Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Fleet Reserve. He was the first McGruff for the Chesapeake Police Department. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa L. Hahn and husband Tony of Chesapeake, VA; his son, Joel Grady Pitts and wife Tammy of Norfolk, VA; a sister, Sara Crenshaw and husband Cecil of Valley, AL; brothers-in-law, James Lott and wife Darlene, Tommy Lott and wife Dallas and their families; four grandchildren, Ben and wife Patrice, Michael, Matt, and Nick; and a great grandchild, Maddux. He is also survived by three nieces, Susan, Tammy and husband Matt, and Sherry and husband John; four great nieces, Kerri, Katie, Autumn, and Emily; and one great nephew, Zack. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. William Clark and staff at Cancer Specialists of Tidewater, The Sid Oman Cancer Center and its staff, and Medi Home Health and Hospice. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Indian River Baptist Church with Rev. Bert Kirk officiating. The burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CHKD.
