Brattleboro- Graydon Elliot, "Grady" Vigneau, Sr. 82, of Laurel Street died peacefully early Wednesday morning, June 22, 2011 at his home, with his wife and family members by his side. Mr. Vigneau was born in Brattleboro on August 10, 1928 the son of Albert and Gertrude (Grover) Vigneau. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and had attended Brattleboro High School. He later served in the Vermont National Guards. From 1952 to 1954 he had worked for the late John Sadd at Hillside Dairy in Brattleboro prior to becoming a police officer with the Brattleboro Police Department. He retired from Brattleboro PD in 1972 at the rank of Sergeant following 18 dedicated years with the town of Brattleboro. His last position from 1972 to 1993 was with Leader Beverage Company on Putney Road. During the years when his sons were growing up he coached Small Fry, Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in Brattleboro. He was an avid sports fan and was a collector of baseball cards. With his wife he especially enjoyed trips visiting the Amish in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, some years completing four to five visits. He also cherished time with his family especially his children, grandchildren and his two great grandsons. With great anticipation, Mr. Vigneau was looking forward to the birth of his first great granddaughter who is due in August. A faithful and devoted husband, he was a longtime communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. On April 24, 1954 at Saint Mary's Church in Turners Falls he was married to Annette Engerman who survives. The couple recently celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage together. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Graydon E. Vigneau, Jr and wife Merry of Bridgton, Maine and Jeffrey P. Vigneau and wife Nancy of Fruitland Park, Florida, three daughters, Judith A. Rogers and husband Parnell of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Lori J. Thibault and husband Kevin of East Dummerston, and Andrea S. Vigneau of Greenfield, Massachusetts, eight grandchildren, Abby Eagers, Graydon E. Vigneau, III, Alison Vigneau, Christopher Vigneau, Kimberly Vigneau, Katelyn Barrows, Brian Barrows, and Darby Frost, and two great grandsons, Taylor Barrows and Jayson Tirrell. Grandpa had a very special place in his heart for his granddaughter Katelyn, who has helped with his care for the past four years. Graydon is also survived by his sister-in-law Modesta Vigneau of Vernon, Vt, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Edward and William Vigneau, and three sisters, Claire, Marjorie and Evelyn. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Rev. Richard O'Donnell, pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial with full military honors will follow in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral home on Sunday from 7 to 9 P.M.
