Gregory "Greg" Martin, age 70 of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Mt. Olive, IL. Greg was born on March 4, 1943 in Granite City, IL, a son to the late Warren and Joyce (Thebeau) Martin. Greg retired from Granite City Steel as a bricklayer after forty years of dedicated service. He was a former business representative for Local 65 and was a member of AMVETS Post 51 in Pontoon Beach, IL. Greg enjoyed driving his black Chevy Silverado, watching NASCAR racing, turkey shooting and fishing. Greg also loved hanging out with his friends at the Luna Café in Mitchell, IL. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Greg will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Joyce Martin. Greg is survived by his loving children, Jeff Martin of Granite City, Terry Martin of Conroe, TX, Kim Martin of Mt. Olive, IL, Gregory Martin, Darla Martin and Kristen Martin all of Granite City; three siblings, Jerry (Janice) Martin of Vancouver, WA, Cheryl Martin of Florissant, MO and David Martin of Mitchell, IL; many dear grandchildren and great grandchildren; life long friend, Johnny Norris of Granite City, IL; beloved pets, Thunder, Lighting, Buster, Keelie, Oscar, Joyce and Barney; and many friends. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL with Rev. Henry Crippen officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Glen Carbon, IL. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rodney Cox Jr. and Kim Martin for taking care of Greg in his last days.
