Gunnar passed peacefully on November 25, 2011 in Portland, OR. Wife Florence, brothers John and Helgy and sisters Jenny and Lydia preceded him in death. He is survived by brother Rudy, age 95, Seattle, WA, and children, Gunnar F. Jr., St. Paul, MN (wife Sharon); Dr. Karen Unger, Portland, OR; Ray, Harrison, ID (wife Mary); Douglas, Boise, ID (wife Karen); Cindy Shannon, Harrison, ID; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Gunnar was born in Mandan, ND on April 11,1913, and raised on a farm SW of Mandan. He worked at Boeing in Seattle, WA near the end of World War II and then as a mechanic in the iron mines in Hibbing, MN until 1950. He then moved to Mandan, ND and worked as a finish carpenter for general contractors and became foreman of the carpenter shop at the State Capital in Bismarck, ND for 17 years until retirement. He moved to Williston, ND in 1975, then to Harrison, ID in 1980. While in Harrison he volunteered for many community projects and served on the city council. He enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage at the local restaurant. Woodworking was his great love. Among his many accomplishments were handmade toys for his grandchildren and 25 grandmother clocks for his family. In 2005 he moved to Portland where he resided at the Odd Fellows Independent Living Home where he was respected and admired.
