Hami Kilic Aslan Solu, age 84 Licensed Professional Engineer. Hami Kilic Aslan Solu (Sammy, Aslan) passed away on October 10 at Pine Acres Nursing Home, Madison, NJ after a brief illness. Mr. Solu was born in Istanbul, Turkey on December 1, 1926 to the late, Emine Firdevs Solu and Turkish Army Inspector General Serafettin Solu. After WWII, under the US Marshall Plan; Aslan received his mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University ('50), IN and his masters degree from the University of Colorado('51), CO. Ever grateful for this opportunity, he became a US citizen in 1978. The flags of both Turkey and America have been prominently displayed in his home honoring his dual allegiance. Mr. Solu worked as both a project and cost construction engineer; and with his wife Nejla Yarkut Solu, travelled for work and pleasure throughout the world. He was involved in the construction of refineries, dams, tunnels and radar stations. His work brought the family to Cooma, Australia; Baghdad Iraq; Chisimayu, Somalia; Izmit, Erelgli, Mersin, and Ankara Turkey; Kuwait City, Kuwait; Nagoya, Japan; and Chittagong, Bangladesh. He was proud of his affiliation with the Paul Smith Corporation, Colorado; Foster Wheeler Corporation, Clinton, NJ; Allied Chemical Corporation, Morristown, NJ; Con Edison, Queens, NY and the World Bank, NYC, NY. He was a life member of the American Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering and was a registered Professional Engineer for New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In his later years he enjoyed the company of the Madison Seniors' Great Discussions group at the Madison Senior Center. He was predeceased by many dear friends and relatives both here and in Turkey and will be welcomed by them in the next life with hearty laughter, a warm hug, spirited conversations, good music and dance. Aslan is survived by his faithful and loving wife of sixty years, Nejla and their sons: Yildirim (Bill) Solu and wife, Aylin of Bodrum, Turkey; Can (John) Solu and wife, Kathleen of Madison, NJ. He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren: Aylin and her husband Christopher Brandon, Claire and husband, Kenneth Burd, Nilya and husband, Steven Schaber, Kara and husband Joshua Franklin, San, Derin , Erin and Selin Solu and by his six great grandsons: Jackson, Ethan, Ryan, Alex, Theodore and Julian. There will be visitation and prayer services at Rowe Lanterman Funeral Home, 71 Washington St., Morristown NJ from 1 to 4pm, service at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Morristown Memorial Health Foundation, PO Box 1956, Morristown, NJ 07962.
