Hansford G. "Hank" Hawkins, 86, of 2505 Moores Ferry Road, Salt Lick, passed away Thursday March 1, 2012 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, KY. Born October 26, 1925 at Salt Lick, the son of the late Robert Lee and Emma Pendlum Hawkins. He was a retired farmer and heavy equipment operator, member of the Polksville Church Of God, WWII Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater where he was wounded in action during the Battle Of Okinawa and received a Purple Heart, he also received a Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star and 2 Overseas Service Bars. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife Magdalene Montgomery Hawkins, 2 sons, Dennis Hawkins of Mt. Sterling and Phillip Hawkins of Salt Lick, 6 grandchildren, Mary Kerr, Jesse Hawkins, Emily Hawkins, Jason Hawkins, Chelsea Hawkins and Shane Hawkins and 3 great-grandchildren, Morgan Vice, Micheal Vice and Destiny Faith Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scotty Hansford Hawkins, 1 sister, Marie Campbell and 1 brother, Edward Hawkins. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday March 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Polksville Church Of God with Rev. Ralph White officiating. Burial will follow at Hedrick Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Saturday March 3 at Polksville Church Of God. Arrangements under the direction of Powell Funeral Home of Salt Lick.
