Mr. Harley Bailey, 95, of 12252 Country Club Road, Waynesboro, died Tuesday afternoon, January 17, 2012, in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past two months. Born August 16, 1916 in Swain County, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Nancy J. (Freeman) Bailey. He and his wife, the late Lula E. (Bayer) Bailey, were married on December 6, 1938. They moved to the Country Club Road address in 1972. Mrs. Bailey died on September 30, 1994. Mr. Bailey was a farmer until his retirement in 1972. During that time he also worked as a school bus driver in the Waynesboro area. Following his retirement from farming, he worked for his sons for over 20 years. He enjoyed attending and taking his 1934 Chevy to antique car shows. He also enjoyed woodworking, furniture refinishing, and working in his vegetable and flower gardens. He is survived by four children, David H. Bailey of Palmyra, PA, Christine Bailey Fuller of Bloomsburg, PA, Craig S. Bailey of Waynesboro, and Thomas A. Bailey of Waynesboro; nine "tweeters" (his grandchildren); 14 great-grandchildren; a number of step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 21, 2012, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Antietam Congregation of the German Baptist Church ministers officiating. Burial will follow in Antietam Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday evening, and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday morning, in the funeral home. The family requests the omission of flowers.
