Brattleboro- Harley Parkhurst "Buddy" Gates, 91, a longtime resident and fixture of Brattleboro died peacefully Tuesday night, September 6, 2011 at Pine Heights Nursing Home. Mr. Gates was born in West Palm Beach, FL on September 20, 1919 the son of Harley D. and Harriette A. (Parkhurst) Gates. He was raised and educated in Florida and was a former resident of Rutland prior to moving to Brattleboro. Mr. Gates had been employed at the former Estey Organ Company and previously worked as a professional driver. Of his pastimes and interests he enjoyed coin and stamp collecting. He is survived by one sister, Diane Benedetto of Miami and a niece, Dianne Chapek also of Miami and his two caregivers, Nancy Parker and Brenda Gorman. Additionally he leaves a host of friends. In accordance with Mr. Gate's final wishes there are no formal funeral services scheduled. Burial will take place in Brookfield, VT Center Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the Parkhurst family lot.
