JANESVILLE--- Harold E. Hamm, age 75, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 13, 2009, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, following a stroke. He was born on April 24, 1934, the son of William and Loriene (McCaughy) Hamm in Ipava, IL. After serving in the US Army, Harold moved to the Footville/Janesville area in the 1950's and began working at the General Motors Plant. He married Patricia Welsh on June 24, 1961, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Janesville. Harold and his family moved to Ft. Wayne, IN, in the late 1980's to continue his work for General Motors and moved back to the Janesville area in 2007. He was a member of St. William's Catholic Church, UAW Unit 95, Milton Knights of Columbus, and a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Milton. Harold enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, decorating, being outside gardening and tending to his flowers, traveling, he loved music, and listening to the radio. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of 48 years; 4 children: Jamie (Dan) Topel and Jeffrey (Yolanda) Hamm all of Janesville, Patrick (Brenda) Hamm of Milton, and Kyle Hamm of Ft. Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren: Kayla, Taylor and Tucker Topel, Kevin, Brian, Shawn, Aaron, Jason, Nicole, and John Hamm, and Ricky Sanchez; 2 sisters; Marjorie Deakin of Cuba, IL and Irma (Marvin) McCormick of Ipava, IL; a brother, Russell (Beverly) Hamm of Havana, IL; a special brother, Merle (Pat) Hamm of Miami, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 4 siblings: Robert and William "Billy" Hamm, Mildred France and Wilma Baughman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at ST. WILLIAM'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville, with Fr. John Auby officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, Janesville.
