HYDE PARK - Harry B. Johannesen Sr., 93, a longtime area resident, formerly of Norway, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at Wingate at Ulster in Highland. Mr. Johannesen was a retired foreman for Standard Gage Co. in Poughkeepsie after 40 years of service. Born Dec. 20, 1913 in New York City, he was the son of the late Karl and Nelly Bergquest Johannesen. He attended church at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church and St. James Episcopal Church in Hyde Park. Mr. Johannesen was a 50 year member of the Hyde Park Fire Department; a 50 year member of the Poughkeepsie Masonic Lodge #266; past High Priest and Royal Arch Mason; a member and past Commodore of Roger's Point Boat Club; and a member of the Hyde Park Historical Society,and the F.D.R. Home Club. He enjoyed boating, fishing and horse training. On March 14, 1937, he married the former Catherine Gottchling at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Johannesen predeceased him June 14, 1997. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Harry B. (Joyce) Johannesen Jr. of LaGrange; Ronald (Linda) Johannesen of Fort Myers, FL; three grandchildren, Harry (Maria) Johannesen of Union Vail; Linda Cerbino (Carl) of Highland; Ronald (Nikole) Johannesen of Hyde Park; 7 greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Karl and Roy. There will be no calling hours. A Requiem Eucharist will be offered 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct.11, at St. James Episcopal Church, Rt. 9, Hyde Park. Father Chuck Kramer and Pastor Richard Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in St. James Church Yard. Memorial donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 4526 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY 12538 or St.Timothy's Lutheran Church, Rt. 9G, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
