Harry E. Bennitt, Sr., 68, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away on Saturday January 15, 2011 at his home. He was born April 19, 1942 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Foster Bennitt and Ada (Barns) Zellers. Harry was a truck driver for Scrappy Iron & Recycling. He was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church, and VFW Post #9423 of Rolling Prairie. Harry enjoyed cutting wood, especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather and a friend to everyone. On March 26, 1966, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Barbara A. (Clemons) Bennitt who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Ada Zellers of Rolling Prairie, IN, step-mother - Doris Bennitt of FL; two daughters, Lisa L. Bicker of Rolling Prairie, IN, Linda (Tim) Gradi of Rolling Prairie, IN; five grandchildren, Amanda, Timothy, Sarah, Zachery, Ian; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Raegan; one brother, Richard (Peg) Bennitt of Plymouth, IN and step-sister, Alison (Solan) Howard of AL. Harry was preceded in death by his father, Foster Bennitt; son, Harry "Woody" Bennitt, Jr., and two step-brothers, Bruce and Wade Zellers. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 11:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday January 20, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Ransom Ebersole, officiating. Cremation will take place. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Grove United Methodist Church.
