Funeral services for Dr. Harry Hale, Jr., 77, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Monroe with Dr. Larry Stafford officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Dr. Hale was born on June 3, 1933 in Fresno, CA and passed away on March 13, 2011 in Monroe, LA. Dr. Harry Hale, Jr., is a native of California, but he received his doctorate in Sociology from the University of Tennessee. Since receiving the Ph.D. degree in 1963, he has pursued most of his career in the southern region of the country. He has taught at universities in California, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Louisiana. He long ago found a home at the University of Louisiana in Monroe. In addition to loving his students, Dr. Hale has held offices in regional professional societies, including President and Journal Editor. He has written journal articles and published four books. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dudley Hale. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruby Erickson Hale; daughter, Debra J. Hale and a son, James Olen (Jimmy) Hale and wife, Abby; granddaughters, Alice and Amelia; sisters, Wilda Sprayberry, Pearl Chapanian, and Irene Hicks; brothers, Howard Hale, Doug Hale, Rodney Hale and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
